Blind Shall See

“Hear, you deaf;
look, you blind, and see!
Who is blind but my servant,
and deaf like the messenger I send?
Who is blind like the one in covenant with me,
blind like the servant of the Lord?
You have seen many things, but you pay no attention;
your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

– Isaiah 42:18-20

I won’t be talking about the literal blind and inability to physically see.  I’m sharing figuratively… and this verse in Isaiah is talking figuratively about the blind and deaf people of Israel and their lack of awareness.  But it still is pertinent to each of God’s children today.

Have you ever been blind and deaf to the things the Lord is trying to tell and show you?

Have you ever thought that may be due to holding onto “hurts” or pettiness?  Or that you’ve been grieving His Spirit as you walk in your own way of doing things?

I was in a panic a few weeks ago… I had these overwhelming “abandonment” feelings.  It felt like darkness crowding in and an inability to see or hear anything.  I felt alone and no longer connected to what was going on around me or to the Lord.  In my hopelessness, I still cried out to the Lord.

After a few crazy weeks of this, truth began to penetrate my heart through God’s written word and He opened my eyes.  He brought conviction and then healing.  I was finally at a place where I had begun to pay attention, out of desperation and hopelessness, I had turned back to the Lord because I remembered Who could light up my darkness.

Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.

– Matthew 15:30-31

I do not know how else to explain all of this, except that the only healing I received for my “sight” came through God by His Son Jesus… in His great compassion and faithfulness alone (not by anything that I did), He chose to have mercy on me though I was undeserving.  And it was HE who restored my spirit and my blind eyes could finally see again.

So if you are feeling “blind” or deaf or unable to reach the Father… cry out to Him still, ask Him to open your eyes, let go of your control and ask Him for healing from whatever you’re holding on to.  Maybe you just stopped paying attention and you’ve had a hardening of your heart from carrying the worries of this world.  Let it go.  Receive His compassion and great love for you.

But I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you. But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward. – Jeremiah 7:23-24

My own blindness came from trying to rebel against the Lord.  From not paying attention to Him, and for choosing for a while not to fear or be in awe of Him… for holding on to false “wounds”, being unforgiving, and sowing into my flesh instead of the spirit.  Your blindness may not be because of this.  This was just a personal experience in my relationship with the Lord and He kicked my butt, but was gently about it like a good Father disciplining a disobedient child.  So I cannot say whether you will have the same experience… but I do trust in the Lord’s faithfulness and that He is full of compassion.
