Half Marathon Update

So, I’ve been avoiding this topic for some time because I’ve been a bit embarrassed.

I’m not sure who all actually reads my blog, but I’ve stated many months ago that I would be training to run my first half marathon to help provide clean water to communities in Africa. I have a fundraising website up for Team World Vision (click here to see it – the link is also located in the right-hand column of this blog).

Regretably, I have not been able to keep up with my training for the past few months. I was planning on running the race at the end of March. Life circumstances prevented me from training and staying focused however. Running my first half marathon shifted lower on my priority list as a result. I felt ashamed for a while. Like I was letting down the communities in Africa, World Vision, people who donated, the Lord and myself. I’m coming to grips now with those feelings and am turning them into motivation rather than self-debasement. Who was this race really about anyway? Jesus Christ and serving those in need – so I have no right to wallow in myself… I’m re-focusing and re-commiting this race to the Lord.

I have had AMAZING support from family, friends and even complete strangers – despite my lack of training. I am SO thankful for and blessed by each of them (you know who you are)!

I have NOT given up on my half marathon. Though I had slacked in my training these previous month, I will begin again. I WILL be running my first half marathon race in 2012. I am publically announcing that I will continue. This is pretty scary for me since I have stumbled the past few months with following through in my training. But! I am asking for you to keep me accountable and to push me. I am currently praying about a specific location to register for the race. I felt very strongly that this was THE race to register for, but it’s a big commitment and I want to be certain it’s the right move. If this race is the one I’m to enter I will register before the end of this month and the race will be in June. So I’ve updated my countdown timer to reflect this.

I will update more as time goes on and I get back into full swing with my training. I have my Team World Vision jersey already though – as you can see. I just need to get some proper running shoes and be ready by June!
